This article also shocked me and was amazed that it wasn't trending more, but I guess it did hit more of a nerve than I expected. It's also the sense of entitlement from the students that stuns me. There's no self-reflection as to how they could have done better. Instead, they blame the professor. We are far down a rapid decline in this country. Thank you for bringing more awareness to this article and congrats on your move to Florida!

I call out this gem about orgo from my alma mater, Northwestern, as everything wrong. Of course, you have to ask yourself how the student newspaper found "news" in the fact that the course is tough.

"Medina explained that maybe if the class was taught at a slower pace — with opportunities to walk through one or two practice tests during lectures with the professor — students would have more time to get a better grasp on the material."

The idea students should be in charge of standards or curriculum has some merit--can introduce interesting innovations, as it did back in the late sixties and seventies when "hey, how come there seem to be no women writers in our courses?" ushered in some great things. But the notion that students decide what they should study? Partly that's the result of professors who always said, "I'm the boss and I know better." Some give and take is advisable. But when the kids run the show, results are what they are at NYU, which should be deeply ashamed of not backing the brilliant professor.
