A short post to highlight three CRT related items that I hope will be of interest. As we start the new school year, we must continue the momentum that began last spring in opposing critical race theory in our schools, in our school districts and school boards, in our state legislatures, in the media, and in the court of public opinion. Keep up the fight!
Critical Race Theory in the Classroom Livestream Discussion
Yesterday I participated in what I thought was a very good panel discussion on critical race theory hosted by Yale University’s Buckley Program. Journalist Christopher Rufo, former teacher Paul Rossi, and me discuss the explosion of CRT in K-12 education and talk about how parents can recognize this cancer in their children’s schools and ways to fight back.
Diversity of Thought in K-12 Education Conference by Parents Unite
On October 1-2, Parents Unite is hosting a conference in Boston entitled “Diversity of Thought in K-12 Education.” I have played a small part in helping Parents Unite to plan what should be a terrific event with a very impressive list of speakers. The goal of the conference is to create a space for parents, educators, and thought leaders to gather and share ideas, and to promote true diversity of thought in education. The conference promises to leave you feeling inspired and equipped to make lasting change in your school communities.
In-person and live stream ticketing options are available and you can learn more and register here.
Undoctrinate by Bonnie Kerrigan Snyder
Lastly, I want to highlight a brand new book that has been written by a friend, Bonnie Kerrigan Snyder, and is being published on September 14th. The book, Undoctrinate: How Politicized Classrooms Harm Kids and Ruin Our Schools—And What We Can Do About It covers the philosophical, ethical, pedagogical, democratic and developmental reasons why classroom bias shortchanges students while outlining effective ways to combat this growing problem. Bonnie is the Director of High School Outreach at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education—a nonpartisan, nonprofit that defends constitutional freedoms in academia. You can also view a free podcast with Bonnie discussing the book here.
